Two boulders sitting in open grass below a steep, overgrown slope that quite obviously used to have them, and let go at some point nobody recorded.
There is something faintly comic about boulders in a flat green field. They have no business being there. The hillside behind is the explanation and also the accusation.
Photographing the obvious
Some landscapes explain themselves if you include enough of them. Cropping tighter would have made a decent study of rock and grass, and it would have thrown away the slope, which is the entire reason the scene is interesting.
Every stray rock in a field is a story about a hill that is falling apart slowly.
A guide in the Cairngorms, roughly
Overcast, as it was for most of that week, which suited this particular subject. The grass stays green rather than blowing out, and the boulders keep their texture instead of turning into two bright shapes.
Nothing to add about settings. This is a photograph anyone could take, provided they stopped the car.
