Field Notes is a photography journal kept by one person with a camera, a pair of boots and an unreliable sense of direction.
Everything here was photographed on foot. There is no drone, no studio, no assistant and no plan beyond going somewhere and seeing what the light is doing when I arrive. Most of the posts are about what did not work, because that is the part I find useful when other people write it down.
Why the notes
I started writing these because I kept making the same mistakes in the same conditions, and writing them down turned out to be the only thing that stopped it. If a post seems unusually specific about exposure or timing, that is why — it is a note to myself that happens to be public.
The photographs
Prints are not for sale, mostly because nobody has asked. If you would like to use an image for something, get in touch and the answer is very likely yes.
The journal is updated when there is something worth putting up, which averages out at two or three posts a month and is wildly irregular in practice.
